Kanaka was born on 19th August 2000 and came to the Home when she was 9 years old.
Her mother and Kanaka were out shopping in Hydrabad, when a thief tried to steal her mother’s bag. She tried to hold on to it and the man brought out a gun and shot her. Her grandparents, unable to provide for her, brought her to the home almost immediately after the incident. She was understandably traumatised by the whole incident and took a long time to settle.
She has a wonderfully kind personality and has been appointed one of the girls who looks after the younger ones in the dormitories. She excels at sport and is one of the few girls who actively participates in hockey, badminton and kahbaddi, a game traditionally played by boys. She enjoys singing too and has made some good friends.
However she has remained very sensitive and requires a lot of love and attention.
