Past SLA Fundraising Events- 2008
Our organised fundraising events were a great success in 2008, thank you to all that participated.
Ladies' Night - Harvey Nichols - November 2008
For the second year running we held our Harvey Nicol's Ladies Night on Monday the 10th November 2008. The evening included exclusive shopping and a 3-course meal and the event raised over £3500. Thank you to everyone who supported this event.
Lad's Curry and Beer Night - November 2008
With a selection of delicious mouth watering curries and free flowing draft lager our Lad's Curry, Lager and Comedy night on Thursday the 6th November 2008 was a great event. Comedian Eric Davidson was said to be hilarious and kept the crowd entertained. This event will certainly become an annual one after it's huge success.
Sportsman Ceilidh - September 2008
Ceilidh has come to mean a social gathering (its true meaning is ‘rocking’) and this is just what this event was, with a bit of rolling and reeling! An evening of good music, playing and dancing at the Sheraton Hotel was enjoyed by many raising significant funds for SLA.
Eisd plus friends - October 2008
On Sunday the 12th of October Eisd held a musical evening for SLA at Morningside Parish Church and raised over £800. Eisd (Gaelic for 'Listen') are a professional group of musicians made up of Shuna Sendall, soprano, Matthew Brown, piano and Alex South, clarinet. In addition to the group, Morningside Parish Church organist, Morley Whitehead, plus a group of young musicians from Loretto School including pipes, participated in the evening’s entertainment. Many thanks to everyone involved and special thanks to Mathew Brown for all his hard work in initiating and organising this successful and most enjoyable event.
The Elephant Ball - June 2008
On the 7th of June 2008 we held our second Elephant Ball at the Sheraton Hotel in Edinburgh, the evening was a tremendous success and over £16,000 was raised for SLA. Thank you to Sue Valente for organising every detail of the event and for making it such fun. Thank you also to all the individuals and companies who donated the fabulous silent auction and raffle prizes which helped raise this magnificent amount.
Ready, Steady .... Toddle! - March 2008
After the mums Of Greenbank Mother and Toddlers group had an informative talk by Susan Dick (a SLA volunteer who has visited our Home-cum-Scool in Tuni, India) earlier in the year they felt inspired to raise money for the children of SLA.
The Greenbank Toddlers set out on a slightly windy and damp morning in late March to toddle their way through Braidburn Valley Park. Despite the weather, spirits were high and the group managed to toddle for a kilometre before it was time to get back to the church hall for some well deserved juice and biscuits!
They raised £640 for Scottish Love in Action. Many thanks to all the children and mums for getting involved and raising this fantastic amount for the children of SLA.
Sponsored Ski - February 2008
January this year saw the 65th Annual Inferno Race which starts at some 10,000 ft just below the summit of the Schilthorn and ends at Lauterbrunnen when snow permits about once in five years and at Winteregg in the others. This years race ended at Winteregg. At one point of the race, the skiers have to run up hill which is no joke at that altitude and certainly sorts the sheep from the goats. Nick Harcus skied this years course in 15 minutes which isn't bad going for 10 kilometers and in doing so raised over £2500 for SLA .
