Past SLA Fundraising Events
Our organised fundraising events were a great success last year, thank you to all that participated.
Christmas Sing-Along -December 2011
There was a great turn out for the Christmas sing-along this year. A big thank you to all that helped to make this event happen and a special thankyou to all the children who participted in the programme - to Daniel and Amy for their readings, to Lucas for his solo and to the Edinburgh Academy Junior Choir for their singing. Through donations this event raised over £1000. Hope to see you all next year!
Fireworks Extravaganza! - November 2011
SLA launched its first fantastic, family-friendly Fireworks Extravaganza! on November 6th 2011. Sponsored by Ryden Lettings, this exciting new annual event took place at George Watson’s Rugby Ground at Myreside Road, Edinburgh.
Mongol Rally - July 2011
Philip Long, a SLA volunteer who has visited our projects in India, rounded off his university career with a fantastic adventure to raise funds for SLA. He and two friends took part in the Mongol Rally, an epic road trip that started in GoodWood Racecourse in July and ended 10,000 miles later in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. But this was no 4WD extravaganza: the rules stated that their car must be no more powerful than 1.2 litres! Their Vauxhall Corsa was named 'Darty' and boasted squeaky scrapyard wheels and a dodgy oil leak before they even set off from Goodwood Racecourse. The journey that ensued was a 44-day run of constant adventure and one that the boys will never forget.
Buy or Bid Original Watercolour Sale - May 2011
Wallace Fyffe invited the public to an exhibition and sale of his paintings in support of SLA at The Merchants of Edinburgh Golf Club at the end of May. Paintings were sold at £15-£25 per item or bid from £5 per item. The exhibition raised an amazing £818 for SLA. Thank you Wallace for hosting such an innovative fundraiser.
Kevock Garden Exclusive Viewing and Coffee Morning - April 2011
Stella Rankin invited SLA supporters to an exclusive viewing of her beautiful Kevock garden near Lasswade just south of Edinburgh on Saturday April 30th 2011. The sun shone and the event was well attended. Over £500 was raised on the day for SLA. Thank you Stella and to all the SLA volunteers who helped on the day. Stella's garden has featured in 'The Garden' magazine and also on the Beechgrove Garden on TV. The nursery has won Best Floral Display for four consecutive years at Gardening Scotland.
Dirty Dancing Girl's Cinema Night - March 2011
Ladies from all over Edinburgh and beyond gathered again and had the time of their lives watching the all-time favourite chick flick Dirty Dancing at another of SLA’s popular girl’s cinema nights. The event was a sell-out. Many got into the 60’s vibe by donning a pair of Capri pants and enjoyed having their fizz opened for them by our seven hunky ‘Patrick Swayzes’. A big and special thank you to all who helped organise and sell tickets for this event, we could not do it without you!
Charity Ceilidh and Dinner - March 2011
Philip Long organised a Charity Ceilidh in March 2011 to raise money and awareness for the Mongolian Rally 2011 which he and a friend, Charlie Hibbert are participating in for SLA. The evening was a great success, well done for organising it boys and good luck in July!
Meadows Marathon - March 2011
60 runners supported SLA and took part in this year’s half marathon on the Meadows, Edinburgh on the 6th March 2011.Thank you to everyone who ran for us and to the 30 Durham students who came all the way to Edinburgh to run.
