Past SLA Fundraising Events
Our organised fundraising events were a great success last year and this year, thank you to all that participated.
St Margaret's Singers - May 2010
A Choral Concert was held in support of SLA at Canongate Kirk, Edinburgh, on Saturday the 15th of May 2010. John Cranston, the highly regarded Choir Director reformed the choir in 2008 after much persuassion from the members after his retirement. The choir is made up of former pupils of St Margaret's School in Edinburgh. The music was absolutely wonderful and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Thank you to all involved for making this such a special evening and raising funds for SLA.
Marathon des Sables - April 2010
At the start of April 2010 Cranston Watts competed in the Marathon des Sables for SLA, an event that has been described as "the Toughest Race on Earth". Competitors battled across a 250km course on foot covering 6 stages over 6 days in the Sahara Desert including one 8271 km stage. In addition to running over the sand and dunes of the Sahara, competitors had to carry their own food, water, and kit for the race and endure temperatures as high as 50°C.
Crannie completed the race and has so far raced over £8,000 for SLA, thank you Crannie , you are absolutely amazing and an inspiration to us all!

Grease Ladies' Cinema Night - March 2010
On Monday the 29th March 2010 we had another fabulous Ladies' Cinema night at the Dominion Cinema, Edinburgh showing the fantastic box hit smash, Grease.
To get into the groove on the night all Pink Ladies were shown to Gold Class Seats to enjoy American Diner style canapés, fizz while the T Birds Rock Group played to them. The Fancy Dress effort on the night topped all of our shows so far and lucky winners of our raffle commented that they were delighted with their prizes. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this fun night..
Meadows Marathon - March 2010
On Sunday the 7th March 2010 runners from far and wide congregated at Bristo square, Edinburgh for the fourth annual Meadows marathon.In addition to some long-term SLA supporters, 29 runners from Durham University, 14 runners from Aberdeen University and 10 from Edinburgh University came to run for SLA carrying SLA balloons ensuring they stood out in the crowd. Thank you to all you participated.
Soroptimist International (SI) Club of Edinburgh - February 2010
On the 16th February 2010 a fundraising event was organised by the Soroptimist International (SI) Club of Edinburgh who are supporting SLA this year. This fundraising event was a private viewing of two upcoming sales: Jewellery & Silver on Wednesday 17th February, and Paintings on Thursday 18th February, including a short talk about some of the items for sale given by one of Lyon and Turnbull’s experts. This was followed by refreshments and the opportunity for visitors to have their own pieces of jewellery, silverware - or other small items - valued by an expert. Thank you to the SI Club of Edinburgh for holding such an imaginative fundraiser for SLA.
