It is with great sadness that we learnt of the death of our Indian Partner’s founder Dr Christopher Premdas. He died on Tuesday 28th April and although he had been ill for sometime his death was sudden and came as a shock to the SLA Team.
Premdas was founder of NASA and the Light of Love Children’s Home and School and a huge inspiration to all of us who were fortunate enough to have met him. He will be greatly missed by so many, but his legacy will live on through all the children at the Home and the many thousands of villagers whose lives he helped improve.
Premdas was very highly respected for his challenging and at times dangerous work bringing justice, relief, education, land reclamation and health care to the poorest of the poor especially the Dalit caste of whom he was one. They were his people for whose liberty he fought tirelessly and for whom he selflessly dedicated his life, bringing them hope in countless seemingly hopeless situations.
It is particularly poignant that Premdas featured so prominently in our new short film Lighting Candles in India which we launched in February this year. We hope that all our supporters will help us spread the film and its message to as wide an audience as possible.
