YOU DID IT!
Not only did you cover the 8000km from Scotland to Hyderabad but you’ve almost made it all the way back again and raised £8228 for our Girls’ Lives Matter Appeal.
In June 2017 we launched our Hoof it to Hyderabad Challenge asking supporters to help us virtually walk, run or cycle the 5000 miles, 8000km or 12,106,000 steps from Scotland to Hyderabad in India to help us raise money for our GIRLS’ LIVES MATTER APPEAL. By walking, running or cycling a minimum of 10km each individuals contributed towards our aim to walk the full distance.
Irvine Welsh, a long-standing ambassador for SLA, kicked off our Challenge by walking the first mile of our 5,000 mile target down the Royal Mile from Edinburgh Castle to Holyrood Palace accompanied by young SLA supporters. Over 100 individuals registered for the Event as well as two schools, Tweedmouth Prior Park First School and South Morningside Primary School. Virgin Atlantic generously donated a prize of two return flights from the UK to India for one lucky participant, congratulations to our winner Josh Duffy from Newcastle.
Colin McRae, SLA’s Executive Director, appeared on STV2 ‘Live at 5’ to promote the Appeal and the Challenge.
Thanks to all the enthusiastic participants and pupils who between them walked the Lairig Ghru, cycled to Newcastle, ran the Edinburgh Marathon and climbed mountains. A a special mention to the P4 pupils and teachers at South Morningside Primary School who between them, covered the full distance over the month!
Here are our July volunteer expedition with the children at Rainbow Homes in Hyderabad holding the banner.
