We are delighted to welcome our new Chief Executive, Michelle Davitt, who took up her post on 15th January 2018. Colin McRae, the outgoing Executive Director, worked with Michelle, along with other staff, Trustees and volunteers, for the first two weeks of her tenure, so that she could be made familiar with everything she needs to know about SLA’s work at home and abroad.
Michelle graduated from Dundee University with an Honours degree in English, and subsequently attained a Post Graduate Certificate of Education (Secondary) and a Post Graduate Certificate in Counselling Approaches.
She has spent many years working in the charitable sector. Her three most recent roles were, firstly, as Senior Project Manager with Pilotlight, leading a team of Project Managers, providing capacity building support to small charities and social enterprises across Scotland.
She was then manager of Disability Information Scotland, leading the organisation through a period of significant change.
Most recently she has been Manager of Big Issue Invest Scotland, where she has offered strategic support and guidance to fledgling social enterprises.
Michelle has also taken part in a very wide range of volunteer activities, and continues to do so, and is a Director on a number of different Boards. She is also currently the organiser of the Edinburgh Fundraisers Network Events.
Throughout her career Michelle has worked closely with others to support and empower people to thrive, no matter their circumstances. She will have the opportunity to work towards that goal in India, as she takes SLA forward.
