In June 2015 6 full sets of Rice Relay Sponsored Challenge equipment winged its way over to George Watson’s College in Edinburgh and over 850 Primary and Nursery children did the sponsored challenge for SLA.
A special thanks to loyal SLA volunteers Brian and Janette for their time and numerous trips to and from the SLA office and school with 24 boxes of ‘rice’ and the 6 containers – no mean feat as our office is on the 2nd floor!
Over a 3 day period all the pupils had great fun running the Rice Relay and managed to raise a fantastic £7500 for the children of SLA. The pupils all seemed to understand the significance of the rice and that a full container is the amount needed to feed the 500 children at the Home in Tuni every meal-time. When one P6 class was asked what advice they would give to other children doing the Rice Relay answers included: “run fast”, “don’t spill it, run carefully” and “it’s tiring”. One boy said that it was good to do because it was helping other children.
Enormous thanks to all the staff at GWC for organising the Relay and to the pupils for taking part and helping SLA.
