Immunisation Programme

Our doctor frequently comes across infections in the children for which immunisations are readily available. There is no comprehensive state-supported immunisation programme in rural Andhra Pradesh.

In 2009 SLA started immunising the children thanks to Dr. Fiona Strachan, a long-time SLA supporter who, when terminally ill, decided there should be a collection for an immunisation programme at her funeral. Fiona's Immunisation Fund is now protecting the children in our care against polio, tetanus, diphtheria, hepatitis B, pertussis (whooping cough), mumps, measles, rubella and chicken pox.

Looking ahead, the aim is to encourage friends of SLA to support this important programme on an ongoing basis.
