SLA for Schools
SLA is all about children, and not just children in India! We are proud that our roots are in an Edinburgh youth group and we continue to receive enormous support from schools and schoolchildren around Scotland.
Would your school or youth organization (cubs/brownies) like to explore and support the work of SLA? At the same time you can meet 'A Scottish Curriculum for Excellence' requirements of citizenship, enterprise and initiative.
Using materials prepared by our team, pupils will look at the position of destitute Dalit children in India. What happens if a child is orphaned? How do such children survive? Why are they vulnerable? What is our responsibility to them as global citizens?
For example, in Moorfoot Primary School,we worked with pupils in the nursery and lower primary emphasizing 'family' by telling pupils about the home in Tuni. We discussed with the middle primary students the imbalance of possessions while in the upper primary worked with pupils on ideas of enterprise and global citizenship.
Headteacher Jane Lambley said that after SLA's visit "the whole school was buzzing". She felt it was a real example of a partnership where Scottish children learned "more about what is happening in the world".
