Tulasi
Tulasi’s basic English says it all: “Mummy yes, Daddy no”. Tulasi and younger sister Gayatri came to Light of Love when their father, dying of AIDS, could no longer cope. Tulasi’s mother and brother are also HIV positive, Gayatri is not.
Tulasi has suffered serious lung and skin infections, but bounced
back each time thanks to the love and medical care she receives
at Light of Love. A healthy diet is critical. Like all the children, she
enjoys three meals a day, unlike before. “Mummy used to buy one
idli (rice cake) for the whole family breakfast, here we get three
each! For lunch we shared simple vegetables and every night we
had cold rice,” she says.
Grinning constantly as she dashes about the grounds, Tulasi shares everything with Gayatri, whom she loves to boss about. Her favourite thing is “to spend time with SLA volunteers” and she says: “I am very happy. I love it here because of the way I am treated by all the children, and the way Sony and Sowmya care for me.”
