Apurna was born in 1999. Both her parents are dead through work related accidents.

She had two older sisters who looked after her but one died from snakebite and the other through food poisoning. Apurna became very distressed and her grandmother was unable to look after her. When she came to the home seven years ago she was a very angry, confused girl. Initially she lost her temper easily and had no friends. Apurna pushed everyone away because she trusted no one.
However with love and kindness from the teachers Apurna has really settled down. She is focusing on her studies and the girls in her class have accepted her and like her. She still needs special attention but is a warm affectionate girl who loves the Home.
