Everything is New is an international outreach project in aid of SLA.
In 2008 members of Scottish arts community Transgressive North visited the Light of Love Children’s Home in India to record music and make a film with the children in a project entitled ‘Everything is New’.
They then reached out to dozens of musicians all over the world and invited them to create music by sampling the voices of the Light of Love Children’s Choir.
Curated by Transgressive North, the project consists of two separate music albums – Sun Choir and BOATS
Sun Choir is an album of new music by Edinburgh-based band Marram, recorded with and for the Light of Love Children’s Choir.
BOATS – a 29-track double album. Each artist on BOATS created their songs using samples of the Light of Love Children’s Choir, originally recorded for Marram’s Sun Choir.
The third part of the project, the Everything is New film, is included with hard-copy purchases of Sun Choir.
Over the New Year of 2013-2014 Transgressive North returned to India to celebrate the completion of the ‘Everything is New’ project. The highlight was the world premiere of the Everything is New film which saw the local cinema packed out by all the children. The trip also included a Hogmanay dancing party when the children heard for the first time the final music from the CD albums, two further music video shoots featuring dance routines the children had devised themselves, and the filming of a documentary about the project.
The Everything is New project embodies the sum of 7 years of work, over several continents, with over 1,000 contributors, all working for free.
