Bhavani

From child labourer to star student, Bhavani is now studying at Hyderabad’s top nursing college

ASRITHA Rainbow Home

Bhavani came to the Home in 2011. Before then, she had dropped out of school and worked as a housemaid. She took the Home’s education ‘bridge course’ for nine months and then joined the local high school in 7th grade. Three years later, she graduated with excellent marks and went on to study health work in Intermediate College, where she also performed brilliantly. Her goal is to become a nurse.

She enrolled in the Rainbow Udaan (‘taking flight’) programme, which helps young people transition from childhood to adulthood, teaching them how to set goals, make decisions, manage their finances and secure their futures.

In November 2018, Bhavani won a scholarship to study General Nursing and Midwifery for three years at Osmania Nursing College in Hyderabad, one of the top colleges in the state. She explains what this means to her.

“I am very happy and excited that I got this opportunity. I always wanted to become a nurse. With all the support that I got I am able to reach my goal, especially Udaan workshop discussed about our future goals. Through this training they have strengthened me to become who I am today. Thank you for the support and thank you ASRITHA Home team, who guided, counselled, encouraged and motivated me when I was feeling low.”
