Welcome Gita

We recently welcomed a trustee

In September, Scottish Love in Action welcomed Dr Gita Anand to its Board of trustees. We invited her to introduce herself.

Welcome Gita! Could you share why you decided to serve as a trustee with Scottish Love in Action?

Growing up in India, I witnessed the deep and lasting impact of poverty firsthand — particularly how it shapes the lives and futures of children born into disadvantaged households. These experiences inspired my academic research on child labour, which I have presented at several international conferences, with a focus on the intersection of social policy and children’s rights. My work highlighted how well-intentioned policies can sometimes fall short in protecting and empowering the most vulnerable.

Could you tell us a bit about yourself?
I currently work with the Scottish Government in the Learning Directorate, supporting the development and implementation of policies across early years, schools and lifelong learning. I am a passionate advocate for meaningful child participation and believe strongly in recognising children as agents of change. Ensuring that their voices are heard  was and respected is at the heart of my professional and personal ethos.

You sound a great fit for the role of trustee. Welcome to the team!
I am delighted to join Scottish Love in Action as a Trustee. It is an honour to support the organisation’s mission to empower children in India — especially girls — and provide them with the opportunities they need to thrive.

Thank you for chatting with us.

If Gita’s story inspires you, could you join her?

We are currently recruiting for two people to join the Board of Scottish Love in Action. Find out more.
