Sharvani
Sharvani was used to money being tight. Raised in a single parent household, sometimes she had to go without.
Sharvani was used to money being tight. Raised in a single parent household, sometimes she had to go without.
She grew up in the countryside near Hyderabad, and lived with her Mum, a farm labourer. Scottish Love in Action supports the Livelihoods project, which is run by local partner, Nightingale. At first, one donor solely funded the project. Recognising the positive impact the project was having, in 2023, SLA began financially supporting Livelihoods, so more people could receive help.
In January 2024, a group of staff and trustees conducted the annual India visit. Visiting the Livelihoods project, it was impressive to meet young people who despite facing multiple obstacles, knew what their dream job was and knew how to make it a reality.
Sharvani was introduced to the Livelihoods project. It helped her to create a personalised life plan which utilised her skills and matched this with local employment opportunities.
Trained staff helped her to break down her goals, and provided practical support, including C.V. writing and interview skills.
Thanks to you, people like Sharvani are supported into employment. Sharvani works as a barista at a roadside coffee shop. Sharvani speaks almost fluent English. Not requiring a translator, Sharvani spoke passionately about the ripple effect of the support she received. Thanks to the budgeting skills she learned, her wages from working as a barista not only support her, but her mother as well. Sharvani hires a scooter, meaning she can continue living in the country with her Mum, but can safely travel to work in the city. Sharvani also contributes to household bills, supporting her Mum.
Sharvani’s story demonstrates when you create life-long change for a young person, you create life-long change for their family as well.
That’s the ripple effect.
Thank you for showing love to young people like Sharvani.
