The determined Rumi is aiming for a bright future
Rumi is 19 years old. She came to live at the Rainbow Home in Delhi aged 6, after she and her mother lost everything in a fire in their rented room.
She thrived in her time at the Home, taking every opportunity on offer to her, gaining in confidence and knowledge.
She had the opportunity to study at St Mary’s school, one of the top schools in Delhi, completing a 1-year course in I.T. and learning Bharatnatyam and basic French.
Her journalistic skills shone through when she worked on the ‘Rainbow Sathi’, the Quarterly magazine for children that Rainbow Homes Programme produce.
After finishing school she gained post as librarian-cum-teacher in the Village Cottage Home NGO. She then enrolled on a BA in Psychology at Delhi university and wants to go on to become a Child Psychologist.
Career guidance and support from the Livelihoods Project, coupled with Rumi’s determination, will enable her to achieve her dreams.
