SLA secures a BBC Radio 4 Charity Appeal
SLA to be broadcast on BBC Radio 4.
SLA are really excited to have been chosen for a prestigious BBC Radio 4 Charity Appeal Broadcast. We’re even more excited that it’s on International Women’s Day, Sunday 8th March 2020!
BBC Radio 4 Appeals are weekly 3-minute shows on Radio 4 that highlight the work of charities from across the UK. Appeals help raise money and awareness for a wide variety of causes.
In 2018/19 alone Radio 4 Appeals raised an impressive total of £1,219,603! SLA are delighted to be one of only 49 charities chosen for this honour this year.
India is home to 1 in 3 of the world’s child brides. Girls are forced out of education and into work, child marriage and early childbirth. Things as simple as just getting the bus to school bring the risk of serious abuse and harassment.
But give these girls a voice and they can change the world.
By tackling taboos like menstruation, domestic violence and sex education, VOICE4Girls galvanises girls to take control of their bodies, their education and their futures. These motivated girls create a ripple effect through their schools, families and communities, that transforms society.
Central to how VOICE works is ‘peer learning’ – girls learning from one another, and from older girls who have already been through the programmes.
Some of the girls take part in leadership activities and then go back to their schools and teach and mentor younger girls. In this way knowledge and life skills cascade through the generations.
Our BBC Appeal will highlight these inspiring girls. We’ll seek support to empower and educate them to ‘be the change’ that’s needed in India.
Please Save the Date (Sunday 8th March 2020!), Share it before and after the broadcast on your social media, Listen in (live or on the BBC Sounds app) and ask everyone you know to listen too!
