What it means to be a trustee at Scottish Love in Action
From 4 – 8 November, it’s Trustees’ Week
From 4 – 8 November, it’s Trustees’ Week; a time to come together to celebrate the achievements of nearly one million trustees across the UK. Trustees are volunteers who play an essential role leading and governing charities, and who work as a team to make effective decisions.
We want to say thank you to our fantastic trustees for giving their time, energy and skills to give children in India opportunities to thrive.
We have 7 trustees: Sheila Cannell, Phil Barnes, Mridula Chakraborty, Janet Edwards, James O’Malley, Malcolm Reid and Sarah Swaroop.
Each person plays a different role on the Board – from Chair to Safeguarding Officer. Collectively, trustees ensure Scottish Love in Action sticks to its purposes, adheres to relevant regulation and uses its resources effectively.
All this takes time and commitment, which we are so grateful for. Our trustees join the board for a 3-year term, with the possibility of serving a second 3-year term. Board meetings are held 4 times a year, and there is the opportunity to join one of three sub-committees, which look at people, programmes and finance.
While trustees generously give of their time, energy and skills, they benefit from the experience:
“Being part of a dedicated team is rewarding – the collaborative environment among the trustees, staff, and volunteers is remarkable, and it contributes significantly to our efforts.
Volunteering for Scottish Love in Action offers opportunities for personal and professional growth. It has allowed me to develop new skills, engage with diverse stakeholders, and contribute to projects that align with my own professional expertise.”
These are the words of Sarah Swaroop. You can read more about Sarah’s experience as a trustee in a blog she wrote earlier this year.
In the near future, we will be welcoming applications from interested people with professional expertise in either digital marketing and innovation, finance, fundraising, or volunteer engagement to add strategic value to the Board.
If this sounds like you, watch out for information on our website and social media channels, or contact Chief Executive, Jamie McIntosh.
